Sapporo Cast Iron Teapot and Trivet by The Metropolitan Tea Company

Cast iron teapots were created in ancient China. They were then adopted and further developed by the Japanese into practical as well as decorative handicrafted items. They symbolize the everlasting strength and unity of World.

In Japan, many believe that a pot of tea isn’t perfect unless it’s been brewed in cast iron. These pots rose to prominence during the 17th century as Sencha teas first began to appear. (Before that time most tea drunk in Japan was Matcha – powdered tea). Interestingly, Tetsubin teapots were first used by free thinking Japanese artists and writers who sought to rebel against the ultra-formal rules of Chado, the Japanese tea ceremony.

Through special chemical treatments, impurities are removed from the cast iron during the production process. A coating of misty black enamel is then applied to prevent the development of rust.

Cast iron pots features an 18/8 grade stainless steel infuser built right in for perfect brewing every time.

Each teapot includes a matching trivet.

Capacity: 2 cups (610 ml / 21 oz)
