Sauerkraut-Sausage Raclette

 

Ingredients:

  • 1 (16 oz) jar of sauerkraut
  • 3 onions
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 large red skinned apples
  • Salt and pepper
  • 12 small bratwursts
  • 10 oz sliced caraway cheese

Preparation:

  1. Pour sauerkraut into a colander, rinse under cold water, if desired, and drain well. Peel onions and cut in half lengthwise. Cut crosswise into half rings 1.4 inch thick. In a pan, heat oil and braise onions for 3 minutes until translucent.
  2. In the meantime, rinse apple, cut into quarters, remove core and cut quarters crosswise into 1/4 inch thick slices. Add to onions and braise for another 3 minutes. Add saue rkraut, bring to a boil and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  3. Cut cheese to fit cooking tray or into strips. Sprinkle a little salt on the preheated grill and cook sausages on all sides for 5 minutes. Distribute sauerkraut in raclette dishes. Cut sausages in half and place on top of sauerkraut. Top with cheese and cook under the heated element for 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Serves 4.
